Unable to adjust focus.

Hello

I am unable to adjust the focus with Yawcam software. I can see the focus scroll bar in the settings but it is a lighter color indicating it is not available. First I tried the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 and then another Logitech camera and another different brand of camera. However, the focus was not adjustable for any of them. I am trying to take time laps Images of a very accurate mercury thermometer to determine the minimum and maximum temperatures to calibrate other thermometers. I need the thermometer to be only about a foot away from the camera. The thermometer seems out of focus and objects are more clearly focused further away. I there a way I can adjust the focus?

Perhaps the camera has a physical focus? most of my cameras lenses turn to focus the lens.
