Getting started

Welcome to the documentation for Yawcam Ai!
This Getting started section is designed to help you get up and running as quickly as possible.

Download and installation

  1. Download the latest version of Yawcam Ai from the download page.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file to any location on your computer.
    • You can use Windows explorer's built-in zip utility to extract the files, but it is recommended to use a third-party tool like 7-Zip.
    • Using Windows explorer's built-in zip utility will require some extra steps in the installation process.
  3. Start Yawcam Ai by running the YawcamAi.bat file.
  4. If you are prompted by Windows Defender SmartScreen, click on "More info" and then "Run anyway" to start Yawcam Ai.

  5. If you are prompted to "Search for app in the Store?", click on "No".

    • Right-click on the YawcamAi.bat file and select "Properties". Then click on "Unblock" and "OK" to unblock the file.
    • Start Yawcam Ai by running the YawcamAi.bat file again.

  6. If you are prompted by Windows firewall, click on "Allow" to allow Yawcam Ai to be reachable over the network.

  7. Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:9080 to access the Yawcam Ai web interface.

    • You can also click on "Open in browser" from the tray icon menu to open the web interface.

  8. Done! You are now ready to continue with the initial setup of Yawcam Ai.

  1. Create admin account
    When you open Yawcam Ai for the first time, you will be prompted to set up an administrator account. Choose a username and password for the administrator and click on "Create".

    Warning

    Note that choosing the username "admin" or "administrator" is not recommended. It is more secure to choose a different name if you plan to make Yawcam Ai reachable from the Internet.

  2. Download drivers
    If you have an Nvidia GPU with CUDA support the object detection will run much faster. This requires the special CUDA drivers from Nvidia. Click on the download button to start the download.

  3. Storage location
    Choose where to store all videos that Yawcam Ai records. The default location is C:\Users\<username>\yawcam-ai\videos.

  4. Add device
    In this step you can add and configure one or multiple cameras. Click on "Add device" to open the camera setup wizard.

  5. Validate drivers and Restart
    If you did start the CUDA drivers download before, it is now time to wait for the download to finish. When the drivers have been validated and the status has changed to "Available" you can click on "Restart now" to continue. You will get at message when the restart is done and Yawcam Ai is ready to use.
    If you didn't download the CUDA drivers, you can skip the restart and just click on "Done".

  6. Done! You can now start to use Yawcam Ai.
