"pass.dat" file modification

Post by hubacekp »

Hello,

to securise my IP cams, I can change username in the "pass.dat" file, but yawcam needs to be restarted to make it working.
1) can I change the username and update it in yawcam without restarting the application?
2) how passwords are encoded in the file?

thank you,
Petr

1) The passwords saved in pass.dat are used to password protect the stream from Yawcam's web server.
You change the users and passwords in the settings by clicking:
"Settings -> Edit settings -> Password"
Enable "Use password on stream output"
And click the Add-button to set up usernames and passwords.

There is no need to edit the pass.dat by hand.

2) The passwords saved in pass.dat are salted and hashed with MD5.

Thanky you for your answer. My issue is, that I need to change user password remotely.
The computer with the webcam is installed on a remote location and I wish my server could change user accounts.
I could pay for some custom modification if necessary.

This is not possible in Yawcam. To achieve this you will have to use some remote control software for your computer. Try Teamviever, VNC or Windows remote desktop.
