Yawcam terminating, rendering webcam unusable

Post by ap_ »

Hello,

didn't recognize this forum before and sent emails directly to malun.

So here's my problem (again, so never mind my emails):

Subsequent to the java-update to V7_update17 yawcam will terminate
itself after some hours of usage (very, very roughly about 10).

After restarting yawcam it cannot connect to the webcam anymore.
If i go to adjustments->search webcam or device->change to and
select my webcam a error.message occurs ('could not connect to the
device').

Then i cannot access the webcam anymore (even with other programs)
until i restart the computer.

I tried to reinstall java7_u17 and even got java6_u43 for checking
-problem persists.

Then i checked yawcam for available updates and updated my long
running v0.3.9 to v0.4.0. Don't help either.

Nothing else aside of the java-update was changed or updated on the
computer. No other programm accesses the webcam.

Problem is reproducible, tried it some times.

My System: WindowsXP/SP3

That was yesterday, today--->

To make sure there's no other problem regarding the webcam or the
system i checked back with my old webcam-program.

With this program (pjwebcam v1.2a, wich i was using until i switched
to yawcam) there's no problem with the cam. Running fine all along.

So the problem is located most likely in the new java-version.

Okay, then you'll get the answer here :-)

I just realized that since I installed java8 on my computer some weeks ago, my java7 installation hasn't been updating.
This means I haven't tried java 7 update 17 anything at all. I'm fixing that now and will see how Yawcam runs on my computer with that version.

In the mean time, could you please run Yawcam in debug mode? It might give us some more info on what goes wrong.
More info on that here:

Did run yawcam in debugmode, as you suggested.

Ran 24 hours without problems, so i was wondering.

Unlike before the preview-windows was turned off, so i turned it on.

Effect -> Crash

I'm attaching the yawcam_debug_log.txt.

As i can see there's a java-error after turning the preview-window on:

# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x7c920cce, pid=3308, tid=3988
#
# JRE version: 6.0_43-b01
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (20.14-b01 mixed mode, sharing windows-x86 )
# Problematic frame:
# C [ntdll.dll+0x10cce]
#
# An error report file with more information is saved as:
# D:\Programme\Yawcam\hs_err_pid3308.log

As i can see in yawcam's error-report java itself produced a own error-report, i'm attaching that too.
As i got aware now there are 4 more jave-error-reports already (i guess from the prvious crashes).
If you want them too just tell me.

EDIT: cannot upload the txt-files. Board says: 'The extension txt is not allowed.'
So i will send the error-reports by mail.

I have been running with java 7 update 17 now, but can't see any different behavior on my computer.

Thanks for the files!
It's hard to see what part that is failing for you. It could be some combination of Java, DirectShow and the camera driver.
You could try to run Yawcam in java rendering mode. This might overcome the problem. Please give the "text file hack" javarendering.txt a try and see if that helps. More info on how to do that here:

Seems the javarendering mode fixed the problem.

At least yawcam is running now since about 3 days without crashing.

Thanks for the help.

Update:

Unfortunately the problem persists, although with slightly different behaviour:

Yawcam don't crash, just the output-picture says: 'No device selected'.
But even if yawcam isn't crashed obviously (i.e. the stamped-in time in the
output-picture counts up the time), it's interface isn't responding anymore.
Means i cannot open the interface, cannot exit correctly.
One time i had to use the taskmanager to exit, the other times had to close
the debug-batch-window.
After that the webcam isn't accessible anymore until a computer-restart
(Same as before i switched to java-rendering-mode).

Additionaly the problem occurs not so often with the java-rendering-mode:
with Java 6.4.3 running for 4 days (19.3-23.3)
with Java 7u17 running for 4 days (23.3-27.3)
with Java 7u17 running for 2 days (27.3-29.3)

And furthermore there are no java-error-logs this time.

-----------------------------------------------
Because i cannot attach files here i will send you this
post as email (with attached yawcam debug-logs), too.

I'm having exactly the same problem. It takes about 12 hours to crash. I'll try the java rendering but I have only a slow processor.
I'm using:

* an ION A603 pc (small, Geode LX800 500 mhz cpu, 512 mb ram, usb2)
* XP-sp3 and tested microXP
* New webcam (Trust). It runs on the standard driver from microsoft, I had no drivers to install.
* Latest Java install
* Latest YAWCAM install

Grtz Wilbert

ps Thanks for the great software!!!

Logitech webcam with yahoo messenger? I have recently un-installed and re-installed my Logitech 500 webcam. It will show up on the webcam rectangular icon on the Logitech icon yet it only shows black on yahoo messenger when I try to access it. Any ideas?
